Weekend Blog 10.10.26 - Minnows, Moon Landing and Marvellous Hockney Art
By D.Vallier, HeadteacherUpdated 10 October 2026Another busy week at Shoreham Beach Primary! We loved welcoming Minnows to their first Funky Friday Assembly and thank our families for their generous Harvest donations to the local foodbank.
Happy Saturday everyone.
It's been another busy week at Shoreham Beach Primary School. But then, we wouldn't have it any other way......
CAPTURED
Here are a few learning moments from this week, captured by Miss Watson:

FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY
Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who joined us for our Funky Friday Assembly and well done to Minnows Class who joined us for the very first time. Weren’t they fabulous! Thank you to Year 6 for looking after them.
GOLDEN TICKETS
Anabelle and Lewis (Reception), Sky and Cece (Year 1), Phoebe and Kayla (Year 2), Reuben (Year 3), Payton and Ella (Year 4), Layla and Ellia (Year 5), Hugo and Delilah (Year 6). Congratulations to you all.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS – SPOT THE DOG
Congratulations to Minnows Class who had an attendance figure of 98.8% this week. The Attendance Randomiser selected Scoobie for them to have for a week. Can you spot him in the photograph below?

OSCAR
Congratulations to Parker (Year 2) on being presented with an Oscar this week.
Parker has had a phenomenal start to the year. He comes into school in a friendly and positive way, ready to learn. He will often put his hand up to contribute to class discussions and will always have a go, showing great motivation and resilience.
Parker tries incredibly hard with his work, often taking up challenges and trying to do more. He asks thoughtful questions and listens carefully to advice so that he can continue to improve. Parker is eager and hardworking, but also kind and considerate, like when he tries to provide a voice for those who are a little shyer and quieter. Just like his favourite superhero, Spider Man, he is always ready to help those in need!
We also know that he is also lovely to people who aren’t linked to the school. Parker’s mum told us that the family once went to a restaurant where he was so polite and kind to the waitress that she gave him an extra lolly and told us what a lovely boy he was.
A message to Parker from his mum…..
“We are so proud of the kind, funny and caring little boy you are becoming. We love you so much. Congratulations — you deserve this award!”

HARLEY BEAR SAYS…..
LET’S HARVEST
Thank you so much for the huge number of Harvest items that you donated to our Harvest Table on Wednesday. Our Harvest assembly was led by Reverend Jane Bartlett from Church of Good Shepherd who spoke about the importance of sharing. All of items have now been collected by Adur and Shoreham Foodbank.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX APPEAL - A MESSAGE FROM EMILY MANN
Dear Parents and Carers, I’m excited for us as a school to be taking part in Operation Christmas Child again this year and would love to invite our families to get involved. The idea is simple — fill a shoebox with small gifts and treats for a child who may not otherwise receive a Christmas present. You could include: Small toys, games or cuddly toys Pens, pencils, colouring items and notebooks Toothbrushes, soap and other small toiletries Socks, hats or gloves Small balls or outdoor toys Other fun and useful gifts for children Please remember that items should be new and suitable for the chosen age group (ages 2-4) (5-9) (10-14) Please state on the box the age group and whether it is for a boy or girl. Please do not include food, liquids, anything breakable or anything that could melt. There is a suggested £5 contribution towards the processing and transportation of each shoebox, if you are able and would like to contribute. Children can also write/draw a picture for the child, I have also attached a print out that can be done to send too. Please bring completed shoeboxes into school by Monday 16th November at the latest. Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the school office or nursery. Need a shoebox? I have some shoeboxes available. If you would like one to fill, please email me at emann@sbprimary.co.uk and I will arrange one for you. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. Every box helps to bring a little extra Christmas joy to a child somewhere in the world. Thank you, Emily (Miss Mann)
MOON LANDING CODING CHALLENGE
Years 4 & 5 took part in the 'Get with the Program - Moon Landing Adventure' this week where they learnt about jobs in aerospace and how to write algorithms to sort moon rocks.

INSPIRED BY DAVID HOCKNEY
Year 6 were inspired by David Hockney this week and produced some beautiful pieces of artwork.

KNITTING CLUB

LEGO CLUB

YEAR 4 KNEPP VISIT
On Monday Year 4 had a talk from Ned and Jasmine from the Knepp wildland foundation. The children learnt about rewilding and the impact of introducing beavers (a keystone species) on the ecosystems. They enjoyed learning about how different animals adapt to survive in their habitat. The visit from Knepp is supporting the children to answer the question ‘Should Wolves be released in the UK?’

LEANDRO AND THE 8 BASKETS!
Our Year 5 and 6 Basketball team were invited to take part in a tournament at Shoreham Academy this week. The children played brilliantly. One win and 2 draws. Special mention to Leandro who scored 8 baskets!

NURSERY TIME
Our Nursery children were busy this week and the afternoon children even managed to squeeze in a beach trip. Contact the school office if you would like to join our Nursery.

COMING UP

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
